Dr. Gregory Wirth, Michigan native now scientist and engineer who worked on the new James Webb Space Telescope, offers a stunning visual presentation about how NASA’s latest hi-tech marvel is revolutionizing modern astronomy. From unveiling the secrets of nearby planets to unlocking the mysteries of the most distant galaxies, the James Webb Space Telescope has become an unparalleled “discovery machine” for astronomers. Greg will also give us a preview of the next great space observatory, the Roman Space Telescope, due to be launched in 2027, which will image exoplanets and look for evidence of Dark Matter and Dark Energy.
Your guide for this adventure is Dr. Gregory Wirth, an avid astronomer with a passion for sharing his love of space with the public. After graduating from H. H. Dow High School in 1985, Greg pursued his dreams at Northwestern University, eventually earning his Ph.D. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where his thesis exploited early data from the Hubble Space Telescope. His work has taken him to the renowned W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii and finally to the Rockies where Greg serves as an astronomer and systems engineer for Ball Aerospace, a leading American aerospace company with a long history of contributing to key astrophysics missions like Hubble, Spitzer, Chandra, and Deep Impact.
